English Grammar in Use is a grammar app by grammar professor Raymond Murphy. It’s based on the best-selling book of the same name. The app features a variety of activities and lessons about grammar. It includes a total of 145 grammar points. The free version comes with less than that. You can buy the rest as in-app purchases. It’s definitely one of the more expensive grammar apps. However, given its creator, it’s probably worth it. There are some complaints about bugs around the app. However, the relatively majority seem to enjoy it quite a bit.
English Grammar Test is one of the more popular grammar apps. It features a ton of content, including 1,200 total exercises. The app stretches that out across various skill levels, tests, etc. It also keep track of your scores and progress. The ads aren’t as intrusive as others, either. Otherwise, the app is completely free.
Grammarly
Best Free Apps For Mac
Price: Free
App like excel for mac. Grammarly is one of the newer free grammar apps. It’s actually a keyboard, similar to Gboard or SwiftKey. It includes features like auto-correct. However, it also attempts to correct your grammar as you type. It’ll recommend things like commas, verb form, misspellings, missing words, and confused words (like using to instead of too). This is a relatively newer app. It still has some bugs and some features missing like gesture typing. However, we expect fixes for those issues over time. The keyboard is free with no ads or in-app purchases at the time of this writing. That may change eventually.

Dictionary apps are kind of standard for English study. They show you the definitions of words, their word types, pronunciations, and examples. The app also includes vocabulary puzzles, a voice search, a thesaurus, audio pronunciations, and more. The free version comes with all of the aforementioned features. Meanwhile, the paid version adds more topical definitions (proper nouns, foreign terms), a full 200,000 word thesaurus, and no advertising. This is about as good as dictionary apps get.

Udemy

Udemy is an online learning platform. It covers all kinds of topics from cooking to tech, language and fitness, and all kinds of other stuff. That includes grammar lessons. You buy a course, watch the videos, and hopefully learn some stuff. They have a variety of videos for grammar, English, writing, and other such things. They vary in quality, price, and length. You may have to read individual reviews of the courses to find the good ones. The app is free along with some courses. Most of the courses cost money, though.
YouTube
Price: Free / $12.99 per month
YouTube is an excellent resource for most things. That includes things like grammar, punctuation, English, and stuff like that. There are educational channels with videos that focus a lot on things like proper English, speaking, writing, and grammar lessons. They’re a little difficult to find compared to some other genres. However, they do exist. Khan Academy, usually known for their math and science stuff, has 118 videos on grammar on YouTube. Everybody knows that YouTube is free. However, you can pay $9.99 per month for YouTube Red and that unlocks some extra features.
Your favorite ebook reader
Price: Free / Book prices vary
Our last recommendation for grammar apps is an ebook platform. Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook, and Google Play Books all have a ton of educational books about writing, grammar, spelling, speaking, and all kinds of other stuff on the topic. The books vary in price, but all ebook platform apps are free. Books are nice for this sort of thing. You only buy them once and they usually have more information than many apps. You can choose whatever one you like best, we’re not picky.
